Power Plant Projects
● Wau Power Plant:
The Wau Power Station rehabilitation
and upgrade project is a critical investment in the power infrastructure of the
country. The Ministry of Energy and Dams signed a contract with Trinity Energy
Ltd for the rehabilitation, upgrade, and operation of the existing power plant
and distribution network in Wau.
The initial phase of the project will
produce 6.5 MW, with the purchase of new engines currently underway. The
project also involves the replacement of the distribution system, starting with
the distribution and transmission poles, replacement of transformers, aluminum
conductors, and prepaid meters to follow.
The project's next focus will be to establish a 20 MW solar power plant, making Wau the first hybrid (Thermal Solar power plant) in East Africa. This hybrid plant will focus on renewable energy while increasing generation capacity, as the project aims to switch to clean energy.
●
Yambio Power Plant:
Feasibility studies have been conducted for the Yambio Power Plant.
● Rumbek Power Plant:
The Rumbek power project had not been operational since 2013.
However, in 2022, the Egyptian government signed a memorandum of understanding
with the South Sudan government to rehabilitate the Rumbek power plant and
distribution network. Trinity Energy has been working alongside the Egyptian
technical team to assist in the rehabilitation process. Trinity Energy has also
been supplying fuel and lube oil for the rehabilitation work.
The heavy investment required for the
rehabilitation of the power plant and network is being covered by the
government. Trinity Energy is partnering with the government to operate and
maintain the facilities once they are rehabilitated. The existing power plant
will have a generation capacity of 2.5-3MW at full load, which will be
sufficient to supply power to major town areas. The plan includes the potential
expansion of the power plant and the extension of the network to accommodate
additional load capacity while maintaining a balanced load.
As the project was not initially considered for business purposes, certain aspects were left out, such as equipment, pre-paid metering systems, tools, vehicles, and offices for controlling power supply services. Trinity Energy is now considering the business side of the project. They intend to recruit a team, procure a pre-paid metering system and its service cables, and purchase necessary equipment for the operation and maintenance of the power plant.
Trinity Energy is actively involved in
the rehabilitation and development of power plants in South Sudan, with a focus
on ensuring reliable and sustainable power supply for the communities in these
areas.
